Christchurch’s predominantly sandy beaches extend for four miles across Christchurch Bay; from in the east, to Highcliffe Castle, and Friar’s Cliff beaches through to Avon Beach in the west. Mudeford Sandbank is a unique sandspit which adjoins Hengistbury and forms a natural barrier between the harbour and the open sea.
The sea is within a three mile drive from The Bend and you have access to fantastic beaches and water sports. The beaches we recommend are at Mudeford sandspit a short ferry ride from Mudeford Quay.
Mudeford is a charming fishing village lying at the entrance to Christchurch Harbour, a mecca for water-sports enthusiasts and fishermen.
The picturesque quay with its lobster pots, old fishermen’s’ cottages and Haven House Inn has been traditionally linked with smuggling over the centuries.
Nowadays it is not only the centre of the local fishing industry, where fresh can be bought from the fish stall, but also a beautiful spot to sit and watch the world go by. Here you can catch the ferry to Mudeford Sandbank, a unique spot of land, which adjoins Hengistbury Head, forming a natural barrier between the harbour and the open sea. It is an ideal spot for a relaxing walk and is easily reached by ferry.
There are fantastic coastal walks stretching from Keyhaven all the way to Bournmouth.
This is a fantastic area for water sports there are plenty of places to do water sports including windsurfing, kite surfing, dinghy
